SCC Girls Section Forges Link with Benenden School

Posted On March 29, 2023

In our continuing effort to promote cricket as the sport of choice for girls, we are delighted to confirm that the SCC Girls Section have agreed a working relationship with Benenden School to develop girls’ cricket across both organisations.

This has the potential to be a very exciting development for SCC, allowing us access to the school’s facilities, its coaching staff and a pool of players that will, over time, allow us to develop a wider set of “all girls” teams that can participate in a growing number of competitions across Kent and Sussex. It will also create an opportunity to improve our visibility and promotion to both our existing and future sponsors and affiliates.

The newly appointed Head of Cricket at Benenden School is Liam Cook. Liam is an ECB Advanced Coach who has trained extensively across both Senior and Age Group cricket in Kent and Devon. Out of our summer season he is the Head Coach of the Brazil Women’s cricket team, spending 6 months of the year developing the game in South America. He will bring huge experience to the development of SCC girls’ cricket not just for the players but also our coaches. We share the same desire to allow all of the girls to develop their cricketing skills to the fullest potential be that to play village cricket or to progress through the County pathways to area, county and international representation.

Benenden School Headmistress Samantha Price said: “I am delighted to see that Cricket is booming at Benenden and this is undoubtedly being greatly aided by our burgeoning partnership with Sissinghurst Cricket Club. We have some very fine players indeed and the interest from Benenden girls will only increase in tandem with the ever-improving on-field quality. I look forward to seeing this partnership go from strength to strength.”

The early sessions, on a Sunday evening at Benenden School, have seen a tremendous turnout from both SCC and the School. The pool of talent is really inspiring and we all look forward to taking this alliance forward through this season and beyond.
